Wileman 25M6 Uniflow Scrubber Barrel arriving on site at ARC Eartham near Chichester back in the summer of 1984. The machine was installed to clean up very dirty quartz gravel at a rate of 250 Tonnes per hour. This machine went onto ARC Lydd in Kent after the closure of Eartham to carry on the good work. Tarmac’s relocated latest plant at Killerby will have a similar machine. Apologies for the poor PPE by the young man in the picture. I wouldn’t get away with that today!

Installed in 1998 the two Wileman 3.3M Dimeter x 7 M long washing barrels, each rated to handle 500 tonnes per hour of 0 to 6 inch (152mm) limestone scalpings continue their work in the Derbyshire peak district.

Wileman were approached by the customer looking for replacement parts for their scrubber barrel no longer manufactured by the original supplier. The machine was over 50 years old and located in a gold mine in central Angola so a site visit was difficult. The machine required new roller paths and running gear. Armed with a few overall dimensions from the customer Wileman were able to design the replacement parts to their own high standard. The bearing housing supports were split at 45 degrees to the horizontal which is unusual. Wileman designed an equivalent bearing housing which was manufactured by Timken Bearings in Dudley from a drawing provided by Wileman. This supply provides further proof of Wileman’s ability to provide bespoke designs to customers requirements.

Wileman Engineers wishes all their customers & suppliers a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

2020 has been a year to forget for many industries and the hope is that the Covid 19 virus will be eradicated and the Brexit issue will be resolved so we can all return to some kind of normality. This will return confidence to the markets and mean the projects put on hold due to the uncertainties in 2020 will be back on the agenda.

Despite this years disruption Wileman still had plenty plenty of projects to keep them occupied and are looking forward to a strong performance & positive returns in 2021.

The Wileman 25M45 Scrubber barrel (2.5M diameter x 4.5M long) was sold to RMC Engineering back in 1984. The machine was installed in Trinidad to handle 150 Tonnes per hour of quartz sand & gravel with 20% silt. Despite the highly abrasive & dirty nature of the material the machine is still running today some 36 years later and providing quality products.
